Marmion Seniors Named National Merit Finalists

Marmion Academy is proud to announce that seniors Joseph Dutton of Aurora, Jacob Ebert of Sycamore and RobertStephen, Jr. of Bartlett have been named Finalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.    The National Merit Scholar process is based on critical reading, mathematics and writing skills scores earned on a student’s Pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). The award process begins during a student’s junior year with more than 1.5 million students vying for the National Merit Scholar title. At the beginning of one’s senior year, this number is narrowed down to 50,000 students and two-thirds (34,000 students) are named Commended Scholars and the remaining one-third (16,000 students) are named National Merit Semifinalists.

Semifinalists are the highest-scoring individuals in their home state. Those students who move forward in the competition and are selected as Finalists (as Dutton, Ebert and Stephens have been) will have the chance to compete for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million dollars and earn the nationally recognized and coveted Merit Scholar title.

Seniors Named Aurora Noon Rotary Students of the Month

Marmion seniors (pictured left to right) Sean Dickerson of St. Charles , Andrew Glanville of St. Charles, Trevor Jones of Oswego, and Connor Dunleavy of Geneva were selected as Aurora Noon Rotary Students of the Month on February 23, 2015. These four students were selected for this honor based upon their academic record, school activities, community activities, and leadership positions within these activities.

Rotary is a service organization made up of volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto “Service Above Self.” The Rotary Club of Aurora is one of the oldest service clubs in the community. Chartered in 1923, it has 68 members who come from all walks of life.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development.
