Alexis Gomez, Girls Wrestling Head Coach

Marmion Academy proudly announces the hiring of Alexis Gomez as the school’s first-ever head girls wrestling coach, marking a historic moment for the Academy as it prepares to transition to a co-educational institution beginning in the 2026–27 school year.

The addition of Gomez represents a major step forward in Marmion Academy’s commitment to building elite athletic opportunities for both male and female student-athletes. With the Cadets’ boys wrestling program coming off back-to-back IHSA Class 3A State Championships, the Academy now sets its sights on establishing one of the premier girls wrestling programs in the state of Illinois.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alexis Gomez to the Marmion Academy family,” said, Joe Currie – Athletic Director. “Alexis brings tremendous experience, energy, and passion for the sport of wrestling. Her success both as an athlete and coach, combined with her commitment to developing young people on and off the mat, makes her the perfect person to lead our girls wrestling program from day one.”

Gomez brings five years of coaching experience at the youth and high school levels and currently serves on the coaching staff for Team Illinois Women’s Wrestling and the Illinois National Dual Team. She has coached athletes at three national tournaments in Fargo, North Dakota, helping develop five All-Americans on the national stage.

In addition to her coaching accomplishments, Gomez is an accomplished competitor herself. She currently competes internationally as a Senior Level athlete for Team Mexico and has represented Mexico in international competition for the past four years. Gomez was also featured as a Real American Freestyle (RAF) athlete on Fox Nation.

At the collegiate level, Gomez competed for both Grand View University and McKendree University. During her career, she earned All-American honors twice, was a National Finalist, and competed as part of McKendree University’s NCAA Women’s Wrestling National Championship team during the 2025–26 season.

Beyond the accolades, Gomez has built a reputation for mentoring athletes through discipline, accountability, leadership, and personal growth. As the head of Gomez Wrestling RTC in Carol Stream, she has grown a successful women’s wrestling club while fostering a culture centered on confidence, hard work, and character development.

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to join Marmion Academy and help build something special,” Gomez said. “The opportunity to lead the school’s first girls wrestling program during such an important time in Marmion’s history is truly meaningful to me. I’m excited to help young women grow not only as wrestlers, but also as leaders and confident individuals.”

As Marmion Academy enters a new era as a co-educational institution, the hiring of Alexis Gomez reflects the Academy’s continued investment in excellence, opportunity, and championship-level athletic development for all student-athletes.
