Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions a student and family will make, and at Marmion Academy, no one has to navigate that journey alone.
One of the defining characteristics of a Marmion education is the personalized guidance students receive as they prepare for life after graduation. While our rigorous academics challenge students in the classroom, our commitment extends well beyond earning a diploma. We believe every Cadet deserves the support, encouragement, and resources needed to confidently pursue the next chapter of their education.
This week, families had the opportunity to experience that commitment firsthand during a College Planning Information Session led by College Counselor Dan Thorpe.
The evening focused on helping students and parents better understand the college application process—from creating a balanced and strategic list of colleges to writing stronger applications, meeting important deadlines, and identifying scholarship opportunities. Families also learned how to approach the process with confidence, reducing the uncertainty that often accompanies senior year.
For many students, applying to college can feel overwhelming. With hundreds of institutions, varying admissions requirements, financial aid considerations, and scholarship opportunities, it’s easy to feel unsure about where to begin. That’s where personalized college counseling makes all the difference.
Throughout the year, Mr. Thorpe works one-on-one with every senior, helping each student identify schools that align with their academic goals, personal interests, and future aspirations. Whether a student is pursuing a highly competitive university, a specialized academic program, military service, or another path after high school, they receive individualized guidance tailored to their unique goals.
His role goes far beyond reviewing applications. He helps students tell their stories, highlight their strengths, prepare for important decisions, and discover opportunities they may never have considered. He also partners closely with families, ensuring parents are informed and supported throughout every stage of the process.
This individualized approach reflects Marmion Academy’s broader mission of developing young men and women who are prepared not only for college, but for lives of purpose, leadership, and service.
When our students walk across the graduation stage, they do so with more than an acceptance letter in hand. They leave Marmion with confidence, direction, and the knowledge that they are prepared for the opportunities ahead.
